Inspiration

Design Considerations: A large loft space with a need for serenity and privacy for the bedrooms. The kitchen location could not be moved due to plumbing constraints.

Design Approach: In order to maximize the open space while also maintaining privacy in the bedrooms we made the movement from the front to back of the apartment as smooth as possible. We borrowed the premise of Hugo Haring’s Gut Garkau farm buildings which emphasized fluidity as function. The walls are smooth and flowing, at odds with the original chaos of artist lofts to maintain a calm, uncluttered space.
