The client tasked us to provide a 5-unit apartment building under one roof. In order to provide a modern sustainable structure in the small suburban town of Rum, it was declared early on that it should fit within the scale of the surrounding homes.

We therefore designed a compact structure, wrapping it in a “blanket” of heavily insulated construction to the north, east and west. However, we opened the building to the southern exposure, which provides heat in the winter, and also happens to have the best views.
