Tight fit

Inspiration

Design considerations: A narrow yet long space with windows at the smaller ends to be fit out with workstations, an office, conference room, pantry and communal area for staff, but also a large reception and show space.

Design approach: We had to organize the space first. so we reconfigured the bathrooms in the space between the front egress stair and the freight elevators, giving a long rectangular space. The front rooms are defined by glass walls and the storage is all pushed to the perimeter. We strategically dropped the ceiling at the reception and the perimeters to conceal ducts, while providing exposed beams and high ceilings at the workstations and front rooms. The result is an open space that has a scale appropriate to each function like a well-designed landscape.
