Inspiration

Design considerations: A narrow lot that did not permit the usual floor-by-floor apartment layouts, shoehorned in between two conflicting conservative architectural styles.

Design approach: Instead of the floor by floor stacked apartments, we split them front and back with a stair in between.

A sliver of a lot between two older styles of New York City buildings needed something independent from the two. Aurelio Galfetti’s entrance to Castelgrande in Bellinzona shows how a humble and modern structure can enhance itself and its surroundings.
